Thanks for receiving us at Distillery Botanica a few times over the last month. Your informative tours and tastings were great and I’ll have to note some of the learnings in a future blog post. For now see the recipe for the Gin Old Fashioned with Rosemary I mentioned.
- 60ml Moors Gin – Erina, Australia
- 3 drops Scrappy’s Bitters Lavender – Seattle, USA
- Bar spoon of fine sugar
- Lemon rind
- Fresh rosemary
- Ice – fresh cubes for stirring and a one big one for the glass
Method – cocktailclub style
Bruise rosemary into sugar in a mixing glass to open up the flavour. Add 15mls of gin and bitters to glass and stir to begin dissolution of sugar. Add a few ice cubes and another 15mls of gin. Repeat. Repeat until you have added 60mls and plenty of ice. Sugar should be dissolved. Strain into large old fashioned with a big chunk of fresh ice and garnish with a healthy lemon rind expelling oils onto cocktail, and a rosemary sprig.
Matching different herbs with bitters and gins provides for endless options but we feel this is one of the best.
